Average

The mean price for the chosen fuel across every forecourt in the county that's published in the last two weeks. A useful baseline — but the cheapest pump matters more than the average.

Cheapest

The lowest price published in the county. This is the number you'd actually pay if you drove to the cheapest forecourt — colour leans green when the floor is low.

Spread

Max minus min within the county. Bright counties have a big gap between the cheapest and the dearest — worth a few extra miles. Pale counties are evenly priced.

Methodology

How the colours are chosen.

Each county is coloured by the metric you pick — average, cheapest, or spread — for the fuel you pick. Numbers come straight from the CMA-mandated UK retailer feed via gov.uk Fuel Finder, polled every thirty minutes.

Only forecourts that have republished a price in the last fourteen days are included. The ramp clamps to the 5th and 95th percentile of visible data, so a single misreported price can't flatten the gradient.
