**Lebanese Legislation is a free, structured copy of Lebanese law: over 100,000 laws, decrees and decisions (1904 to 2026), about 390,000 articles in Arabic and French where published, 47,000 court rulings, 6,800 Official Gazette issues, and a graph of about 270,000 links showing which text amends, repeals or cites which.** It is the data behind lebaneselegislation.com, a free public service by Taktek. It is not an official publication and is not endorsed by the Lebanese state or the Lebanese University.
- **Source and credit.** The texts come from the public site of the Lebanese University's Centre for Research and Studies in Legal Informatics (legallaw.ul.edu.lb). We keep the raw pages and add structure. If you reuse the texts, credit the Centre (see Licence and credit).
- **Licence status.** The laws, rulings and Gazette issues are public texts of the Lebanese state. We add no rights or restrictions of our own, so the licence field says `other`. The graph and the structure are ours, free to use.
- **Update cadence.** Rebuilt every night from the Centre's site. The last upload date is in the badge above. Each row keeps its source page and fetch date.
- **Not legal advice.** Check the official texts before relying on anything here.
Same data, other ways in: the website (every article has its own address), a read-only JSON API, and a free MCP server for AI assistants (`https://lebaneselegislation.com/mcp`, listed in the official MCP registry).
The texts are as the Centre published them, with structure added: articles, amendments, versions and a graph of how texts change and cite each other.
The Centre runs about a year behind. Texts it has not published yet are read from scans of the Official Gazette's own pages: two machine readings, compared word by word. They are in `legislation` like any other text, with ids from 2,000,000,000, and listed in `legislation_scan`. Where the readings disagree, the article text keeps both, marked U+E000 reading one, U+E001 reading two, U+E002. These copies are unofficial: check them against the page images on the site. When the Centre publishes a text, its version replaces the scanned one.
The full judgment behind a ruling page is a scanned PDF with no text layer (older ones are handwritten). The scans are on the site, not in this dataset. `ruling_file` lists the ones we hold, and `ruling_page` holds the text Gemini read from them, one row per page. It is a machine reading: it may contain errors, nothing in it is corrected or rewritten, and the scan is the reference. The reading is still under way, so these two tables grow.
Some dates the Centre prints are wrong: a text signed after its own Gazette publication, a year typo (a decree of 31/12/2025 printed as 31/12/2026), a placeholder 01/01 for a Gazette whose day is not known. `legislation` holds the corrected date; `date_correction` keeps the date as the Centre prints it, the correction, and the evidence (the text's own signing line, the Gazette issue that published it, the texts numbered around it, or two Gemini readers agreeing on a date found in that evidence). Where nothing settles it, the signing date is left unknown rather than shown wrong.

We don't own this data. The laws, rulings and Gazette issues are public texts of the Lebanese state, and the Centre collected and published them. We add no rights or restrictions of our own. If you reuse them, credit the Centre:

`graph_edge` holds every link we know between two items, and `graph_node` every item. Items have keys: `law/<id>`, `law/<id>/art/<number>`, `ruling/<id>`, `opinion/<id>`, `research/<id>`, `gazette/<id>`.
- `relation`: `replace`, `amend`, `repeal`, `insert`, `suspend`, `extend`, `general_repeal`, `cites`, `applies`, `derogates`, `interprets`, `publishes`, `note_amended_by`, `note_repealed_by`, `note_added_by`.
- `source`: `model` (a model read the article and wrote down what it cites; the link was then matched against the data by code, and the quoted words were checked against the article), `centre` (links on the Centre's own pages), `parser` (rule-based patterns).
- `status`: `linked`, `no_article` (the text is in the data, the article number isn't), `unresolved` (the cited text isn't in the data yet; `to_cite` says what was cited), `general` (a general repeal naming no text).
No model wrote any legal text in this dataset. Every article is as the Centre published it; models only read articles to find the links between them.
